Joel Book Director, eMarketing Education, ExactTarget, Inc

Joel Book is Director of eMarketing Education for ExactTarget, the world’s leading provider of on-demand software for precision email marketing and customer service communications. With more than 30 years of experience in direct marketing, Joel delivers more than 60 keynote presentations annually on the effective use of email to drive retail and online sales and keep customers connected to the brand. His popular seminars are packed with practical case study examples of what to do and how to do it right.  
During his career, Book has helped numerous B-to-B and B-to-C marketers plan and execute data-driven relationship marketing strategies that have increased sales and improved customer retention. Among the companies with whom Joel has worked are Microsoft, Agilent Technologies, American Cyanamid, Hasbro, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), E*TRADE, Peterbilt Motors Company, and The United Methodist Publishing House.

Prior to joining ExactTarget in 2004, Joel worked as an independent consultant to agencies and corporations. In 2000, he joined PrimeResponse, Cambridge, Massachusetts, a leading marketing automation software company, where he served as Director of CRM Consulting until the company’s acquisition by Chordiant Software. Before joining PrimeResponse, Book was Director of the Integrated Marketing Solutions practice for DiaLogos, a Boston based consultancy specializing in eMarketing solutions for customer acquisition and retention.

Book began his career in 1976 at Johnson Hill Press, a custom publishing company (now a division of Cygnus Media) in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin where he served as Director of Marketing until joining Farm Journal, Inc. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1984 as Vice President for Marketing Services. At Farm Journal, Book developed and ran the company’s highly successful Database Marketing Services division that provided database management, marketing analytics, and direct mail services for Farm Journal advertisers.

Joel is a graduate of the University of Illinois where he earned a B.S. in Marketing Communications in 1976. He is a highly-regarded speaker at national marketing conferences including NCDM, ad:tech, DM Days New York, and The DMA’s B-to-B Interactive Marketing Conference. Joel is a member of the Direct Marketing Association, the Web Analytics Association and the Business Marketing Association.
